NEW!
Now forming ~ Dubuque Canine Drill Team!
Drill team is a lot of fun for dog lovers who also love music and movement. It consists of choreographed movement to music, mostly with the dogs in the heel position. If you have seen military drill teams or horses in a drill team, you can imagine what canine drill team looks like. In addition to the group moving with their dogs in various changing formations, members of the group may break out and individually perform tricks or other interesting moves before getting back into formation.
Canine Connection owner and trainer, Cindy Ludwig has had a love of music and dance for as long as she can remember and has had years of dance training as well as private instruction and university education in music. She has taught dance and played several different instruments.
Cindy has had an interest in the related dog "sport" of canine musical freestyle for a number of years and has performed with the Badger Kennel Club Drill team that performs each fall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. She has tried different methods of teaching freestyle until finally settling on clicker training as taught in the Karen Pryor Academy and by international freestyle champion, Michele Pouliot.
Drill Team is just one application of the fundamental behaviors learned in basic dog training. Dog owners wishing to participate in the Dubuque Drill Team will need to have had some basic training since dogs will need to be able to heel alongside their owners without the aid of special equipment. Only flat buckle or snap collars or well-fitting harnesses are allowed - no prong/pinch collars, choke chains, shock collars or head halters. Dog owners who have taken classes with Canine Connection are encouraged to participate, and those who have not are encouraged to enroll to gain the basic skills necessary for drill team.
